Test, Don’t Guess! Bring your soil samples and discover what’s happening beneath the surface. Learn how to test your soil and interpret results to improve your lawn, garden, and plant health.

The Master Gardeners of Greater KC will be at Watkins Woolen Mill State Park & Historic Site to collect soil samples for lawn testing.

📍 Location: Watkins Mill Visitor Center - 26600 Park Road N., Lawson, MO
📅 When: Saturday, Oct. 18 • 9:00 a.m.–Noon
💲 Cost: $20 per sample (cash or check only)

💡 Visitors can bring their prepared soil samples to the Master Gardeners, who process their samples for analysis in partnership with the MU Extension Office.

Soil tests are the best way to understand what your lawn or garden needs for a healthy growing season. Fall is the perfect time to test, as soils are usually dry, and results can be used to make improvements before spring planting.

👉 How to collect your soil sample:

  • Take at least 5–10 small samples from different spots in your garden or each 1,000 sq. ft. of lawn.

  • Collect a 6-inch deep slice of soil using a bulb planter, trowel, or spade.

  • Mix your samples in a clean bucket, then bring about 1½ cups in a sealed plastic bag.

  • Master Gardeners will provide forms, mailing boxes, and assistance at the event.

  • Testing should be repeated every 2–3 years.
